Steel Art
steel art born of the desert
Kelly explores the remote desert for his “art supplies”. He loves exploring places with grit and history, like the old mines of Pioche that date back to the mid to late 1800’s.
Going beyond pedestrian steampunk, Kelly scours the desert ground for small objects that speak to him. Gathering them up, Kelly then “draws them” with 100-year-old steel, creating visual steel art pieces steeped in history, born of the desert, and forged by passion.

“Hey, it was Halloween time. I always wanted to make some spider webs. Maybe I’ll do more! I also wanted to make Spiders out of the rusted wire I always found. I lucked out and found some fabric binding on an old couch from the early 1900’s out at a mine near Searchlight, NV, that worked out great for their bodies”.
